Dumont Art shows my artwork - I am an artist and Buddhist practitioner. My name is Adrian Dumont-Namin.
I believe art and meditation are related. Both can result in higher states of consciousness, that is, states of profound wellbeing and healing.
I think art can be used as a tool for good and is also a means of self-expression and of connecting with your higher self.
One word which exemplifies the closeness of art and meditation is 'absorption'. Part of the meditation process is the 'becoming absorbed' in the meditation object. This may often be an 'object' such as the breath. As we get more and more absorbed, our habitual thought processes become more and more refined and we 'transcend' everyday reality. Doing this can bring a wealth of positive and beneficial results. We experience a deep level of relaxation but we also experience something even more important - healing takes place. We find that a wondrous process takes place in which a mass of complex and inter-related inner processes which are often strongly linked to intense feelings and emotions such as pain are accessed in a completely painless and enjoyable way and then resolved. So it is with art - a great way to see the painting process is in becoming absorbed in the meditation object - in this case - a landscape or photo. A person becomes the object of meditation - you become a landscape.
